Leaders of 189 countries gathered at UN headquarters in September 2000 to sign the Millennium Declaration, a pact for the elimination of hunger and extreme poverty in the entire planet by 2015. To achieve it eight Millennium Goals were proposed by the UN for the mobilization of governments and society.
